Leftover Foreign Currency

Overseas travel is gaining its ground once again. For instance, more and more people are taking advantage of the budget packages in visiting other countries. Of course, this would give us travelers who move in a very tight budget. However, many times you find yourself with an amount of leftover foreign currency after returning from an overseas trip. The amount may not be considerable since they may just be some loose change, probably some coins, but they are cash just the same. In many countries, foreign currency coins are not accepted by money changers. It would be probably alright if you are collecting foreign coins from foreign country as a hobby, but if you are not, then it would definitely be a waste.

How could you avoid ending up in this situation? A reliable strategy is to exchange only the money you need. Try not to withdraw extra amount thinking that it would be better for you to have cash on hand all the time. Besides, majority of banks charge a substantial fee each time you withdraw from an Automated Teller Machine in a foreign country. You may also decide to exchange currencies at a foreign money changing shop but you should be ready to lose some money since they also charge commissions. Moreover, having extra or excess money at hand could also pose a possible problem. This will not only make you vulnerable to unnecessary spending but also to some unscrupulous individuals, who are like lizards waiting for the first opportunity to attack their helpless prey. Although we cannot generalize it is always good to be alert and vigilant at all times at all times when one is in a foreign land.

When you leave a country, it is almost certain that you will be end up keeping some left over money no matter how hard you try to foresee your expenses. There are many ways travelers employ to use up these money. In this case, after considering their remaining itinerary, some travelers would keep the exact amount they need for transportation out of the country and do last minute shopping for small souvenir items such as magnets, stickers and key chains. If you have some philanthropic inclinations, then you may try to look for some donation boxes intended for local charities. Many international airports actually have this service to relieve foreign visitors of their leftover foreign currencies and to put them to good use.
